A Gift for Artists not on their List (But Should Be)

Gift for Artists
An gift for artists that isn’t paint?? Why didn’t I think of that??

When you are wracking your brain for a gift for artists in your life, here’s one you probably didn’t consider, but should.

Buy them a membership to their local art guild.

1. Community. A membership to the local art guild is a gift for artists — and everyone else in your community. Supporting the arts in your community increases tourism, boosts the economy and raises property values. (Americans for the Arts.org)

2. Cost. Guild memberships are relatively inexpensive. Our annual, individual membership is just $35.

3. Resources. Artists can often feel and act as solitary creatures. Yet creativity feeds off of other creative sources. Some of the best resources (grants, arts partnerships, showings, marketing) comes from groups like the Coastal Arts Guild of CT.

buy-local4. Support. The membership cost supports arts programming, yes. But more importantly, the membership says: “I support YOU as an artist.” Many artists don’t join a guild because they don’t feel “good enough.” A membership tells them: these are your people! Join them!

5. Convenience. It’s easy to purchase the membership online. Right from the comfort of your pajamas or mobile device.

To purchase a membership for your artist, click here. Join them in a family membership, and you can even purchase a “patron” or business membership for yourself.

Enjoy the season and remember to shop local and handmade, whenever you can.

Two Roads is bringing back the “ConnArtists” art contest — We’re reaching out to drinking-age artists from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Vermont and Pennsylvania to help us celebrate our roots by creating a work of art depicting the scenes, people and places of Connecticut’s history, past and present.

The winner’s art will be reproduced and displayed on a 30-foot high fermenter inside the brewery and they will receive $1,000 and a party at the brewery in their honor — where their gigantic art will be unveiled and toasted! Five runners-up will have their art featured at our party and receive a $250 check.

Paige Mamone Sketchbook Celebrate Art Lordship
4th grader Paige Mamone poses with the sketchbook. From left, PTA board members Cyndi Casinelli, Brooke Trasy, Prinicipal Kate Murphy, CAGCT president Mark Hannon, teacher Jenny Cooper, and PTA president Joanna Haddad.

On May 28th the Coastal Arts Guild of CT is partnering with Stratford’s Lordship Elementary School to host a daylong art field day called “Celebrate! Art” for the 270 students.

Students will get the chance to wear paint clothes and go hands-on with paint, fiber, masks and more, along with enjoying drumming and dance sessions.

To help get the kids in the mood, Lordship art teacher Jenny Cooper invited students to submit designs for mini sketchpads that will be given to the students the day of the event (provided kindly by Sketch for Schools).

Mrs. Cooper said the choice was difficult but she selected 4th grader Paige Mamone’s design for the front of the sketchbook.

When we visited the school and showed Paige the book, her reaction was priceless!

Thanks to all of the artists who are setting aside time for this great day. We are all looking forward to it!
